How one community kicked off Fire Prevention Week

title

By Lisa Braxton

A zip-lining Sparky the Fire Dog®, firefighters grooving to the beat, TV personalities leading a crowd in a spectacular performance of singing and dancing. All of these elements came together in Ontario for the Barrie Fire and Emergency Services and Simcoe County Fire Department flash mob video launch of Fire Prevention Week 2013.

Although the campaign was two years ago, it is well worth revisiting as communities prepare for this year’s Fire Prevention Week.

More than 100 people participated in the flash mob performance in City Hall courtyard: kids, parents, firefighters, city employees, and home safety experts. The video reminds everyone to test their smoke alarms every month and about the importance of escape planning–to get low and go under smoke, get outside to the meeting place, and call 9-1-1.
