Compelling fire department video raises awareness of cancer risk

Por Lisa Braxton

The Boston Fire Department has created a vídeo to increase awareness of the toll cancer has taken on its members. The video encourages today’s firefighters to take steps to reduce their exposure to toxins by using self-contained breathing apparatus longer while on the scene of a fire, wearing their hoods and promptly cleaning exposed skin and personal protective equipment.

On a recent visit with NFPA staff, Boston Fire Commissioner Joseph Finn shared what he knew about each firefighter pictured on the memorial wall shown in the video and his commitment to reducing the risk of firefighters getting occupational cancer. The video is a moving tribute with an important message.
