A Message from the Executive Director
Michael S. Williams

On behalf of the Fire Services Training Institute, I would like to welcome you to our website. The motto of FSTI is Adapt, Overcome, Improvise and Persevere. We hope to instill these values in all of our programs and as our way of doing business. The primary mission of FSTI is to provide quality training and promote firefighter safety.

FSTI is a work in progress. Many people have spent years developing ideas to help make FSTI possible. We did not start over night or on a whim. Hundreds of years of experience came together to find ways to bring quality training to the firefighter, EMT, paramedic, investigator or police office in the field and to promote safety.

Over the years, I have been asked about program development and standards. FSTI does not engage in the development of standards, testing, policy or practices. We leave that to the experts and the various committees such as STEAC and FIRESCOPE. This is the proper forum for such discussions. FSTI is focused on delivery of the standards and training mandates. This is an important distinction.

The Institute plans on contracting the best instructors. These instructors will be certified by such organizations as the California State Fire Marshall, the National Wildfire Coordinating Group and/or the California Peace Officers Standards and Training. All instructors will have attended ethics training with a signed Instructor Code of Ethics and Conduct on file. If you are interested in becoming a contracted instructor, please send a resume and cover letter to the following address:

Message from the CSFA President
Kevin Nida

As the CSFA President, I am very proud to be on the Board of Directors of FSTI, and of the work that the FSTI members have done so far.  We have just scratched the surface of the potential of our new training organization.  We all know how important training is, and want to here from you on your needs and ideas. Again, I am very proud of the work that FSTI has begun and the bright future we have together.
